Many companies have moved away from this and have started using live support chats.

If you ever have problems with your website and need some assistance, it can be very frustrating to go for help and realize that there is not a phone number to call. Some companies have moved to live online support only and have done away with call in help desks. If you are someone that needs to listen to instruction as opposed to reading them on the screen then make sure the host has a phone number.

Some web hosts offer free programs. They will most likely not offer support on these programs. That is because they are not programmed by the company.

The hosts that provide free page makers are often just suggesting the use of the program. The software will not be supported by the hosting company. It is probably a better idea to purchase a web building program so that there is phone support available in case that there are problems with the software.

There will probably not be a lot of documentation for a program that is offered for free. It is better to go with a program that will be supported by a company. Also with purchased programs, it may be easier to find user groups that can assist you.

With newer programs, it can be much simpler to find assistance. There can be entire communities involved in providing assistance to other users. There could also be several tutorial videos on line regarding the software.

Making the decision of what host to go with, consider what you are paying for. If you are paying one dollar less each month but not getting phone support then it may not be worth it. These services might raised the monthly cost, but it may be worth the price increase.

A help desk with a live person can really make someone in need a lot more relaxed. Having to go through an automated system can really raise the blood pressure. More will be explained over the phone than over a chat box.
