Pottery: A Timeless Creation

“All things bright and beautiful” is a good way to describe the work of potters. Anyone can easily adore handmade vases and bowls. If they are not perfect in shape, there is still something charming and spontaneous about them.

Romance definitely comes to life in modern pottery. These beautiful pieces are copies of old classic designs; however, each copy is still unique. Each one contains the potter’s creative sense and love for life and beauty, humor and romance. The potter shapes each piece at the potter’s wheel before it is placed in the fire to finish strengthening and shaping.

Having a piece of pottery is like having a Monet or a Degas painting. The gold coin tray or a basket tray is not perfectly formed to exact precision but that’s their charm. The graceful curve of a vase or pitcher and the burst of color on a round tray are the combined work of the potter’s hands and art. As she shapes the piece, she follows an instinct and the completed vase can even surprise her. Others are carefully sketched and colors planned before the mass of clay is picked up.

Pottery is a craft. In earlier times is served as a trade that supplied royals and commoners utensils. Nowadays, pottery is an artistic form. Clay plates, mugs, bowls, trays, pitchers and jars were needed things then. Plastics and other materials that would produce hundreds of bowls or trays per day replaced these, and plastics or melamine cost less as well.

The traditional technique of creating pottery was simple but as people’s needs and demands changed, potters evolved their craft. They added a different amount of ingredients to make the pieces durable and more aesthetically pleasing. The better quality pieces where reserved for royalty and the wealthy merchants. Stoneware was found in most households.

If you purchase a set of trays or vases, you will see that there are not many of the same kind. There may be a dozen or two however most of the time, these are unique and so this sets handmade pottery apart from mass-produced pottery. You will not find the exact same set in any shop. Each pottery shop includes its own pieces that are handmade. This is similar to the art of lyrical poets. They wrote their poetry and every poem was distinct from the poetry of others.

Contemporary homes displaying touches of handmade pottery have a certain style - the modern lines will be softened by the lovely pieces or a rustic type of home can be beautified. If you like, the idea of a rustic kitchen, then getting some handmade pottery is wonderful. You can get bright colored pitchers, bowls, mugs and trays.

Handmade pottery are also great gift items and wedding favors and for most occasions. If you want to add ‘color’ to your home or want to give something that’s different, think about handmade pottery. You give away not just a piece of fashioned clay but an artwork that lyrical and magical.
