A Real Friend Would Tell Me I Had a Drug Addiction

Until the crisis becomes a reality in somebody’s life, the majority of people don’t like to ponder about troubles. Some things that I would put on the list would be having a bout with leukemia or cancer, having a friend or loved one die at an early age, or having one of your kids or loved ones develop a drug habit and need drug rehab.
Dealing with the last problem is fairly frustrating as you know it is because of the individuals choices and decisions that put him or her in that state of affairs in the first place. It is never an easy thing to tell somebody that you love but they have a drug problem which has gotten out of hand and that you think the only possible solution for the problem is drug rehabilitation.
I have seen lots of individuals who started using drugs have a young age and are still using them now in their late 30s and 40s. The thing is if it doesn’t really affect their life in an unfavorable way, you can’t in actuality do much about it most of the time. If they’re not truly showing the signs, you may not even see it’s happening. Other times however, individuals are pressured into trying a little ‘just once’ and that leads to a reliance like no other. It’s really unfortunate that they made that wrong choice, as that one choice changed their lives forever. The only real hope that a lot of people in this situation have is to get into a drug rehab program and to hope that they have to go through it only once. For most individuals though it usually takes more than one time through a program to completely get over it.
The really horrible thing, when it comes to harder drugs like meth or heroin or cocaine, it only takes that one time and a person’s life becomes utterly controlled by the dependence. There is really no explaining the hold that these drugs have on some people. When you watch someone going through it, you know you can’t understand it, but you also know you will do anything to make it stop. The fact of the matter is that they are in a state of mind that isn’t going to be compliant with wanting to be clean, and any mention of a drug rehabilitation will make them pull away from you. You really might be the only hope that person has though so don’t let that stop you.
Unless some certain things happen, trying to get somebody to go to a drug rehab isn’t going to work unless they are in agreement with it. If a person commits a crime because of the drugs then the authorities can draw up a court order making them go to drug rehabilitation. Heavy drug use causes people to do things they would not in general ever do if they weren’t on them, so when this happens it is imperative that somebody really steps in. Some can be talked into drug rehab, but many can’t.
The only other time someone may be forced is when they threaten their own lives or the lives of others. Even then, it has to be said or done in front of authorities, which can be hard. Whichever way it takes, if someone you love has a serious drug problem, do everything you can to help them get into a drug rehabilitation program. Your actions could really save their life.
