No matter what room in the house you place an area rug in you have to decide exactly where the rug should be placed. You want it to be noticeable along with being placed securely. You don’t want a rug which is in a room to have a corner stick out in a busy area causing harm to someone who enters. If you have a room which is always busy no matter if it’s the kitchen, entrance, or the family room, an area rug can be your friend. It will take most of the wear and tear which the flooring underneath will avoid.
An area where there is much entertainment is a great location for an area rug. By placing an area rug in the center of this location and putting chairs and a table around it, this will feel inviting and cozy to many whom enter. This is a great idea for family rooms which are large enough to break up the space for many different locations.
If you are placing an area rug in a dining room you want the table to be fully on top. Chairs are another question many ask about. Should the chairs be fully on the area rug or just the front legs? Well it’s best if the chairs are able to be placed fully on the rug when pulled out to sit. If this isn’t an option for you, try making the chair sit off of the rug but the person’s feet to be resting on the area rug.
If you still aren’t quite sure how large of a rug you’ll need for your dining space always measure the top of the table and then add at least 6 inches extra onto the sides of the rug. This will allow the chairs to sit on the area rug without having two legs on and two legs off feeling as if they’d fall if they moved fast.
Bedroom area rugs are another great spot. There isn’t a specific location for these area rugs in this romantic room but placing them on each side of the bed will give you that warm feeling when you roll off in the morning rather than getting that shocking coldness if you have wooden floors as soon as you wake up. If you are looking for something more to cover most of the floor in the bedroom, just as you would the dining room, measure your beds width and length and tack on a few inches for coverage when you sit on the bed with your feet on the floor.
If you are looking to design your bedroom with a few little area rugs here and there make sure they are secure on the ground. You don’t want any accidents occurring especially when you first wake up. It’s easier and more cost effective to purchase smaller area rugs rather than a large one in case you get overwhelmed and want to remove them. They are easier to store and much easier to find a different location for them if necessary.
