Quick Tips for Finding Designer iPod nano Cases
Date: Saturday May 24, 2008Posted in: Entertainment
I bought a designer iPod nano case for my nano 3G yesterday, and chances are you’ve been thinking about designer cases too. If you’re only going to use your 3G nano in an armband at the gym, stop reading now. Designer cases aren’t going to make sense for you.
The rest of us worry about getting our nano wet, or banged up, or just plain feeling overly geeky walking to school or work. There has to be a better way to carry it around, preferably with a little style.
Until a couple weeks ago I didn’t think about style for a nano. Then I saw my friend’s leather flip case and knew it was time to find something new.
Inexpensive and Okay:
The easy path is (of course) a simple, “leather look” flip case. You can get one for under $10. A quick search found them in black, brown, pink, and blue colors. No doubt there’s more. There’s also another model that opens from the side (wallet-like) instead of the top.
A small step up is the Kroo Manhattan faux leather. It has red topstitching to make it a little more memorable. Still, not the statement I was looking for when I was shopping.
For a little more style statement consider Cloe Dao’s designs. I like the bright colors she uses on her striped and spotted cases. (The skull and crossbones case I can do without, but edgier types might like it.) The designs are great for weekends but too casual for around my job.
Mid-Range Price and Style:
The Sena Pullino case is a great option. It’s a simple design, uses real leather, and has a velvet lining to prevent scratching. The European leather case has a tight fit, which I prefer. I hate worrying about whether the nano will fall out. This case won’t get you style gasps of envy, but you won’t have any reason to be embarrassed about it either.
Two other mid-price designers to consider are Marware and Pacific Designs. They both make a good variety of multi-purposes cases. Marware even has a leather flipcase that’s reasonably priced.
High Fashion:
If you like the glittery look (evening?) check out the Gilty Cotoure 3G nano case. It comes in silver or gold plating, with Swarovski Crystal accents. The crystal accents frame the screen and control wheel. Surprisingly tasteful and still special. If you have a 8Gb nano, this case is just slightly less than the cost of your nano. But then, you weren’t concerned about that anyway were you?
My favorite for the work week is the Difusi case with snakeskin and napa leather. I also like the magnetic clasp. Also a plus: the price is around $40.
If you own the old style (2G) nano, you have some great choices by Coach, Dior, and Prada to review. I was hoping for a Coach case for my new 3G nano, but they don’t seem to have one yet. I’ll look again around Christmas.
I ended up with the difusi 3G nano holder and I love it. Maybe this Christmas I’ll look again for a high-end brand that fits the 3G.
You have a lot of options for finding your own special 3G iPod nano designer case. Enjoy, and express your own style.
