The Benefits of Canadian Online Shopping

Date: Thursday October 16, 2008
Posted in: Shopping

There are a lot of reasons to shop online, the convenience is unrivaled and often you can find better prices than in local stores. However, if you live in Canada, you might feel that there just aren’t the same kinds of deals for Canadians as there are for Americans.

The truth is, most free shipping offers are US only and that can be a real turn-off if you live in Canada and the shipping is higher. Not to mention, there are plenty of points systems and rewards available for those residing in the US, most of which are not available to Canadians. However, this doesn’t mean online shopping is out if you happen to live north of the border . . . in fact, there are some major benefits.

Buy Local

When shopping on the internet, you have access to stores worldwide. There is always shipping to consider, of course, but you really do have access to just about anything you can think of. When you buy within the country, though, you’re supporting your own economy and this can be a great way to show your appreciation for Canadian businesses and products. Many small businesses operate only online and ship only within Canada, so by looking overseas and at American sites only, you miss out on a lot of options.

Cheaper Shipping

When you order in country, you don’t have to pay duties, customs fees or over-priced shipping fees. Everything is much more economical and that’s a huge plus, especially if you want to buy something larger, like furniture. Try shipping a children’s table set from England to Canada . . . it won’t be cheap, differenter from Dell Computers.

You can also find free shipping through some programs and companies, which is usually only valid within the country.

Canadian Rewards Programs

Most Canadians can’t actually participate in the American rewards programs that give you special discounts and such for buying through them. However, if you join a Canadian online shopping program, you’ll get all the same benefits while buying in country.

Some of the benefits found in rewards programs for Canadians include:

- Savings and discounts, often up to 25-50% on products you would buy anyway.
- Free or deeply discounted shipping.
- Money-back offers where you buy and get cash credited to you.
- Points and rewards. Basically, you earn points for shopping through the portal site and can later spend these points to get free products.
- Coupons redeemable online and occasionally, offline.
- Free gifts with purchase.
- 2 for 1 deals.
- Delayed payment, where you buy now, pay later.

Obviously, it depends on which rewards program you use . . . each one has a different offer. It really pays to take a look at some of the rewards available for Canadians and then to choose the best one for your online shopping needs. It’s also a matter of preference, some people prefer to receive immediate discounts, others would rather wait for their rebate.

Online Malls

This is one of the best ways to shop online. Through a Canadian virtual mall or rewards program, you can browse dozens or even hundreds of shops all at once for the products you need. Often the option to price check across various stores is available and you can search for whatever you need, receiving results from a variety of sellers.

The advantages of making your purchases online make it worthwhile to seek out Canadian options for online shopping. You can get the free shipping and discounts by shopping in your own country and enjoy online shopping the same benefits that many Americans do in the US.

Why Women Rock

The Why’s of Men

1. WHY DO MEN BECOME SMARTER DURING SEX?

(because they are plugged into a genius)

2. WHY DON’T WOMEN BLINK DURING SEX?

(they don’t have enough time)

3. WHY DOES IT TAKE 1 MILLION SPERM TO FERTILIZE ONE EGG?

(they don’t stop to ask directions)

4. WHY DO MEN SNORE WHEN THEY LIE ON THEIR BACKS?

(because their balls fall over their butt-hole and they vapor lock)

5. WHY WERE MEN GIVEN LARGER BRAINS THAN DOGS?

(so they won’t hump women’s legs at cocktails parties)

6. WHY DID GOD MAKE MEN BEFORE WOMEN?

(you need a rough draft before you make a final copy)

7. HOW MANY MEN DOES IT TAKE TO PUT A TOILET SEAT DOWN?

(don’t know…..it never happened)

And the personal favorite:

8. WHY DID GOD PUT MEN ON EARTH?

(because a vibrator can’t mow the lawn)

Back to School Shopping

What parent doesn’t dread the whole back to school time of year? This annual gauntlet seems to be pure torture for all involved, from the parents vying for the best spot in the checkout line to the tired, whiny kids being dragged from store to store in search of the perfect notebook. That’s why more and more parents are opting to do their back to school shopping online these days!

The Real Cost of Back to School

There are several areas that you spend money on while doing the back to school shopping. A huge part of it is the actual supplies, but you may not realize all the hidden costs that really add up.

- Eating out. Most back to school shopping days take more than a few hours and you end up eating at a fast food joint, which can get expensive if you are buying kid’s meals for everyone.

- Gas. With gas prices so high these days, it’s definitely a consideration and you waste more gas sitting in traffic and driving around parking lots than you do on the freeway.

- Treats. Let’s face it, no one expects their kids to be perfect for hours of trudging through stores collecting all the school supplies, so little things like chocolate bars and toy cars tend to become part of the trip.

- Extras. Maybe there’s a super sale on socks that you realize you could get . . . even though they aren’t on your list. Or maybe your toddler just screamed too loud and you ended up buying that Tonka dump truck . . . most shopping trips end with extra items in the cart.

- Broken items. This doesn’t always happen, but when you have frustrated mothers and hyper kids . . . things happen. Especially in crowded stores. So you may end up paying for an item that your child accidentally knocked off a shelf and broke, adding to the cost of the day.

Add to this the amount of energy you waste running from store to store, chasing kids and trying to maintain some semblance of calm when the clerk ignores you for the millionth time and you have a true nightmare.

Shopping Online for School Supplies

All this tension, time and money can be eliminated with one simple tool . . . your computer. By shopping online for your school supplies, you’ll be able to buy when you have some free time, even after the kids are in bed! This eliminates the whining and fussing of hot, tired kids. You’ll also save quite a bit of money by doing your back to school shopping online, especially if you take a few minutes to join a rewards program or to look for coupon codes to bring the prices down a bit.

There’s no commute time or even any need to get dressed, if you don’t want to. The savings in time and money are huge when you opt to do your shopping online. And chances are you’ll find even better prices on retail websites than you would in the actual physical store!

Once you’ve ordered your products and back to school supplies, you just need to sit back and relax, they’ll be delivered right to you and before school starts! It’s really the best way to do your back to school shopping, since it requires minimal effort and you get even better results. Not to mention, there’s no need to take the kids to the crowded mall and waste gas looking for a place to park!

Acne - A Natural Way Of Treating It

Date: Monday July 28, 2008

by Dave Bern

Acne is not a skin condition that teenagers suffer from today, there are many adults who also suffer from this particular skin complaint as well. Luckily for these people there are now plenty of different treatments available to help deal with this problem and although effective some do contain chemicals which could be harmful to ones skin.

This is certainly one of the main reasons why so many people are now choosing to use natural ways of treating this particular skin condition today. There are plenty of good quality natural acne treatments one can now use that do not contain chemicals which are harsh or dangerous on ones skin.

A lot of people feel that the natural acne treatments one can use do not seem as effective or work as quickly as prescription to over the counter medications for treating this condition are. But this is not the truth, yes it may take some time before you see positive results from using such natural treatments, but they still are as effective as any other medication for treating this skin condition are.

One of the most effective natural treatments for acne is tea tree oil. It is a golden color and will have been distilled from the leaves of certain plants using steam. This particular natural treatment has been used for many centuries by the Australian indigenous people not only for medicinal purposes but for cosmetic ones as well.

The oil itself contains anti-bacterial properties which help to kill off the bacterium that causes acne to form under your skin. This particular natural treatment for acne should never be applied directly to ones skin, but rather it be diluted in a mixture of water. You should put 1 part oil to 20 parts water in order for it to be truly effective.

Because it has been proven that tea tree oil is effective at treating acne some companies now who make acne remedies are electing to replace the chemical benzoyl peroxide that they have previously used in theirs with this. Not only are these products much kinder on the skin but also they offer the same results as well.

A person with sensitive skin should look more to use a product that contains tea tree oil in it as it is much gentler and milder on theirs. Plus it is far less likely for a person’s skin to dry out when using it. To further enhance the effectiveness of the tea tree oil on a person’s skin mixing it with some Aloe Vera is a good idea.

As well as tea tree oil another natural treatment for acne that is proving to be effective is the spice turmeric. But unlike tea tree oil which is one of the best acne treatments available this one can be taken orally as well as applied directly to the skin where the acne has erupted. Although it does not contain anti-bacterial properties, turmeric instead contains antiseptic properties which can help to fight and kill off the acne bacterium.

If you want to take this natural treatment for acne orally, the best way to do so is mix some into a cup of warm milk. When it comes to applying the turmeric directly to the skin first make up a smooth creamy paste using some coconut or sesame oil then apply on the areas of your skin affected by the acne. It is best to allow it to remain on your skin overnight and so apply about twenty minutes before you go to bed. The next morning you will be amazed at the difference in the size of your acne spots and how much they have been reduced by.

The Fascinating Story of the Guinea Pig

by John Savage

Many a time when you visit with a friend or relative one of their children will drag you out to see their pet guinea pig, but have you ever stopped and asked yourself what you know about these delightful pets?

And delightful they are, for guinea pigs make great pets, but they were not always a domestic animal, so just where do they originate from, and where did they get that name from, because, lets face it, its a rather odd name.

Well let me shock you by firstly saying that they are actually rodents, and are technically known as Cavies, but don’t let all this put you off, please read on.

These delightful animals have been around for millions of years, and we know this because of fossilised remains that have been uncovered and it is only relatively recently that they have become a family pet.

Now for something else to surprise you, they used to be much larger than they are today, averaging around 9 feet long. That’s a sizeable pet.

Now where do they come from? Well they originated in South America, and were first domesticated by the Incas. They were both a religious Icon, and sadly a source of food, and this is still the case even today in parts of Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador.

Ever thought a rodent would be considered to have healing powers? Well in some parts of Peru they believe this and they think that the guinea pig can aid the transition from this life to the next. Now that is quite something!

These lovely creatures came to Europe and America courtesy of the sailors who brought them to sell for, guess what, a guinea, and that is where part of their name came from.

The second part of their name, pig, comes from their likeness, at the rear end, to pigs, and also to the fact that they tend to squeal a bit like pigs.

They have also been used quite a bit over the years in the field of research, and you have probably heard and used the expression “we are using him as a guinea pig”

Medical science has benefited greatly from the use of guinea pigs in their laboratories but of course although they have saved many a human life, the cost in the lives of the guinea pigs has been high.

Even today they are still used for research but in a more humane way which we are told does not cause any distress to the animal.

Today in Peru, guinea pigs still play a prominent role in various ceremonies, and quite often a person will give one as a present when they are trying to impress.

You may be surprised to learn that a rodent could be so well loved, but a recent survey placed guinea pigs just behind dogs, cats and rabbits in the popular pet league.

So, next time your friends children drag you out to look at their pet guinea pig you will understand a little more about the attraction of these animals.

Most people subscribe to the idea that dogs jump on humans in order to be closer to them. However, this can be scary if large dogs, even with good intentions, jump on humans. It can cause all kinds of problems and potentially really hurt someone so it is important to know how to stop dog jumping behavior before an accident occurs.

The reason your dog jumps up is to have a better view of you. You can minimize this behavior by lowering yourself so that you are at his eye level and then he will not have the desire to leap up at you. While this is a solution for you, there are also the neighbors or strangers that you encounter in public places and naturally you want to prevent your dog from jumping at them. In order to insure that this does not happen, it is necessary to train your dog properly so that he will respond to your voice commands.

Many people want to learn how to stop dog jumping behavior before they have even trained their dog in the basics. When training your dog to stop jumping on you or others you must make sure that he is properly trained in sitting first. It will be to difficult trying to teach your dog two commands at the same time. Be patient with your pet and diligent, soon your hard work will pay off.

For the dog training you should begin with your dog standing in front of you. You can immediately determine when your dog is about to jump up. What you want to do is look for the signs - muscles tensing, tail wagging etc… When you notice that they’re thinking about jumping up command the dog to sit. If the dog jumps up on you regardless (and he likely will at first) bring your knee up to his chest and firmly tell him Off. You might be tempted to say down. However, that is the command to get your dog to lay down and should only be used for that purpose.

The goal is not to hurt your dog, but to gently raise your knee, knocking the dog off balance. This is a natural way to show him the “off” command and you should reward him when he listens. Repeat this enough times and he will associate the word off with not jumping on people.

A dog that jumps up on people with no control is an accident waiting to happen. Learning how to stop dog jumping behavior in your dog can prevent harm to others and, maybe even to your dog.

Organic vegetable gardening is gaining popularity these days. The main reason behind this is is people are more health conscious and are paying more attention to the food they consume. Also, in some places where food is not widely available, people have decided to plant their own vegtables. In this article you will find some useful advice on organic vegetable gardening.

Organic vegetable gardening does not use fertilizers and chemicals which can be harmful to humans. It also does not use genetic engineering or irradiation. Instead, it uses simple farming techniques like tilling the land, giving it enough water and sufficient exposure from the sun.

When harvesting is finished, something new is planted which is better known as crop rotation that helps keep the soil fertile. Growing organic vegetables is not something that only farmers can do. This can be done by homeowners since they can plan some of these in their own backyard. The first thing that you have to do is choose what kind of vegetables you want to grow. You also have to understand how big these can grow so it will be easy to plot how many can be placed per row.

The next step would be to determine the condition of the soil. There are soil fertility kits that you can purchase from any hardware or gardening store to determine this. Once you have determined that the soil is good and fertile enough you have to clear it of rocks and weeds. By adding some compost and greensand to the soil you can supply it with nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous. If you need to adjust the soil’s pH level you can add some lime or sulphur. Do this only if you really have to.

When using organic matter, it is recommended that you till or dig in the fertilizers. Ensure that you have at least an inch of sharp sand if the soil you use is made of clay before you rake the soil into rows or beds. For best results, you should leave the soil for a month before planting.

Do not forget to use an organic mulch to blanker the garden. For this you can use ground bark since it will decompose over a month or two. Besides that, you can use a compost file made out of recycled leaves, grass clippings and kitchen waste as they all serve as a good natural fertilizer.

The organic vegetable garden will grow but it will be always under threat from weeds and insects. For that, you have to use other animals and insects to fight these pests. You don’t have to buy them because setting the ideal conditions will invite them in to your home.

As for the weeds, you can get rid of them by pulling them out or spraying home made vinegar as this stops them growing. If you plant thickly enough, you will be able to discourage weeds from growing in between the plants.

Planting your own organic vegetable garden isn’t that bad given that the only ones who will be consuming what is planted are those that live in the household. But it’s going to be a bed of roses from the time you till the land to the time that they will be harvested.
